What the Lab counts — and what it doesn’t, yet.
A public record kept in three strict tiers — verified outcomes, leading indicators, and targets. The rules were published before the results, and nothing moves up a tier without evidence.
How to read this ledger
Verified outcomes
Results that cleared the published evidence bar: a baseline defined before the work, a named source, a verification method, and a date. The only tier ever described as impact.
Leading indicators
Real, checkable activity that precedes outcomes — published documents, open intakes, stage progress. Reported as activity. Never converted into impact.
Targets
Stated aims, explicitly not forecasts or promises. Always shown next to what is verified to date — even when that is zero.
The evidence threshold
- Every metric defines its baseline and counting rule before a pilot begins — planned first, provisional when modeled with assumptions disclosed, verified only when independently checkable.
- Where multiple actors contribute to a result, the Lab reports its contribution and shows the method — it does not claim sole attribution.
- Failed pilots are written up in the same ledger, not buried.
What never counts
Conversations, proposals, letters of interest, website traffic, media mentions, and targets. None of these appear in the outcome tier under any framing — a pipeline is not a result, and this page is built so the two cannot be confused.
Verified outcomes
Tier 1 of 3Provisional estimates
ModeledPlanned metrics
Defined FirstLeading indicators
Tier 2 of 3Checkable activity that precedes outcomes. Each links to the place it can be verified.
Published research products
Frameworks, agendas, and briefs — dated, revised in place, free to download.
Workstreams reporting a stage
Each publishes its stage and next milestone. None claims a running pilot.
Asset donation intake live
Real-world assets reviewed case by case. No completed transfers are claimed.
Targets
Tier 3 of 3Stated aims — not forecasts, not promises. Each is shown beside what has been verified to date.
Institutional Demand
Long-Term Target100 million institutional meals per year transitioned to plant-forward procurement
The stated aim of the 100 Million Meals initiative, counted at the contract level when counting begins.
Verified to date: 0 meals
Supply-Side Retirement
Metric DefinedProduction capacity permanently retired — with resale verifiably excluded
The Factory Farm Exit program’s core metric. The counting rule is defined; the mechanism is still in research.
Verified to date: no capacity retired or claimed
What changes this page
Down a tier
When evidence doesn't hold.
Evidence changes status
Entries are revised in place, with dates. The page never resets.
Up a tier
When it clears the bar.
Unfavorable revisions follow the same rules as favorable ones.
The counting rules live in the Measurement & Impact Ledger Framework, published before any result.
See something that shouldn’t count?
Challenges to methodology, baselines, or attribution are welcome — that is what the ledger is for.
